ABOUT GENDER EQUALITY

Gender inequality has been a significant issue throughout the world for a long time. According to Google, gender inequality is the discrimination on the basis of sex or gender causing one sex or gender to be routinely privileged or prioritized over another. Due to distinctions in biology, psychology, and societal cultural values, there is unjust treatment between men and women. Gender itself can greatly influence a person’s life, and how they build their career, relationships, skills, and abilities

Misogyny

Misogyny is also one of the prevailing factors of gender discrimination and sexism. It is defined as hatred, contempt, or ingrained prejudice against women, usually exhibited by men, resulting in various forms such as sexual/non-sexual harassment, rape, and physical/emotional/verbal/mental abuse. Misogyny is one of the grounds of gender inequality, this is easily recognized around the world specially in Asian, African, and middle eastern countries where women have limited rights. Any hostile treatment to any person because of their gender is unjustified and deplorable. If we tolerate misogyny or misandry this would result a society without harmony.

According to our recent survey, 53 out of 59 respondents believe that misogyny has a big impact on our society. This shows how women have been mistreated into a lower social status in society. Unfortunately, gender stereotypes still exist in the present generation, this makes it harder for numerous countries to develop likewise expand laws and rights for every gender. Many countries refuse to embrace and accept new ideas they rather instill outdated and often gender discriminating culture and traditions, this preventing them to be a better nation.

A person's capability is not defined by their gender. Any skills can be learnt regardless of their gender. Our gender should not dictate what we can do or what we cannot do, likewise it should not restrict our abilities.

According to our recent survey, 48 out of 59 respondents believed that a person’s gender cannot affect their capability to do certain things. The notion that men and women should be carrying out a role that society has imposed on them can prevent someone from realizing their potential, talent, and personal abilities. It can also affect how they act, dress, speak and think. For instance, men are portrayed to be masculine, strong, and aggressive which can cause destructive behavior and is the reason why men engage in violent activities. Whereas, women are portrayed to be feminine, polite, and obliging which can limit their self-expression and job opportunities.

Sexism

Sexism also ties to gender inequality. Sexism is defined as prejudice or discrimination based on one's sex or gender. It is rooted in stereotypes and gender roles. Sexism can affect anyone, but it typically affects women and girls who want to succeed in prestigious fields commonly associated with men. Additionally, sexism can negatively affect a person’s health and health care.

When both genders are denied medical treatment based on sex, it can lead to major health risks and high rates of illness. According to our recent survey, 50 out of 59 respondents often see/experience gender discrimination, and 29 out of 59 have been subjected to gender discrimination. With this result, a high percentage of people have seen or experienced gender discrimination which explains that majority of people see or experience these types of scenarios almost every day.

Discrimination

Additionally, gender-based stereotypes can heavily impact a person’s education and workplace. According to our recent survey, 47 out of 59 respondents believed that gender norms have a significant impact on employment/school. Although men face discrimination in these areas as well, bias and discrimination are most frequently directed at women in the workplace and in the educational system.

Gender discrimination is prevalent worldwide, this is exhibited through the lack of rights and laws that could reduce the problem. Experiencing gender discrimination can be offensive to the other person. For example, misgendering people on purpose, intimidating people because of their gender, disfavoring someone based on gender, etc. Across the world, women have less economic participation and less access to basic rights, education, and political representation than men. People have been judged for their job, course, social status, and many more because of their gender. In our society, men are often considered to be great at many things and women can only do limited things
